Lord Crawshaw Walk

Saturday 1 st February 2025

Lt. Col. The Lord Crawshaw of Aintree O.B.E., T.D., D.L., was a great friend of and fellow walker with Llanwrtyd Wells Walking Club.

Part of our Annual Challenge Walks Programme, this annual memorial walk has been organised in his honour to recognise his contribution to walking in Wales. Dick Crawshaw was a past President of the Long Distance Walking Association and established a world non-stop walking record of 255.8 miles in 1972.

Our walk does not attempt to challenge that record, but offers a choice of two routes through our beautiful countryside, of 12 or 20 miles. The event is non-competitive, and a qualifying event towards the award scheme promoted by the IVV (International Federation of Popular Sports) through the British Walking Federation (www.bwf-ivv.org.uk). Certificates of completion are also available for all participants and a woven badge is available to purchase.

The routes are self-guided, with .gpx files being available for navigation devices, the routes being posted on the OS Maps website and app, and a paper route map being issued at registration.

For this winter walk entrants must be properly equipped and carry survival gear.

However there are 2/3 checkpoints along the way monitoring your progress and providing tea, coffee, water and home-made cakes.

Entry is £10, with online entries closing 7 days before the event.

It is possible to enter on the day, but there is a £2 surcharge for doing so.
